Greta Mural
A giant mural featuring the climate activist Greta Thunberg has been created in Bristol. It was painted onto the side of the Tobacco Factory in Bedminster, by local street artist Jody. As of July 2021 the mural has been painted over and is no longer visible.
The wall is a popular one. A prime location which features prominently in the popular Upfest street art festival. That event isn’t happening this year. It’s taking a hiatus after running for 10 years in a row. This year, instead of a full scale festival, the team behind Upfest have produced a series of individual murals. It’s part of a series called the ‘Upfest Summer Editions‘.
Taqi Spateen at Upfest
Palestinian artist, @taqi_spateen, join us at UPFEST PRESENTS...
A critically acclaimed artist, Taqi’s piece is part of an international graffiti art project by Bethlehem Cultural Festival, with other pieces in Leeds, Glasgow, Stroud and London🌟
Due to the difficulty in bringing his family from Palestine, he painted his two children with keys to unlock the doors to the future.
Through immortalising his children in his art, Taqi sheds light on the struggle for freedom and the hope for a better tomorrow.
New mural on North Street
Located on North Street on the Tobacco Factory wall facing Aldi, the mural features scenes of Bristol and people holding fruit and vegetables, with the words ‘Planet Local’.
Planet Local has been created by Bristol street art heavyweights, Silent Hobo and Inkie, to promote the Planet Local Summit, which takes place in Bristol at the end of September.
The huge piece of work was commissioned by Tobacco Factory owner and former Bristol mayor George Ferguson, and has been backed by Bedminster BID and Local Futures.
Inkie and Silent Hobo were making final touches to the piece, which is the first commissioned piece they have worked on together.
Inkie is best known for his distinctive typefaces, which can be spotted everywhere from Cotham Hill to St Paul’s.
